singer not the song
Ugh.. this email (below) is so weirdly sad. Dude was in The Stranglers for 16 years, problem is, it was the ‘last’ 16; he replaced the superior (but chart-hungry, and on his last residual check for that Peaches commercial he did for Del Monte in my head) original Stranglers singer Hugh Cornwell. Its even weird that in the first three lines there, the rep claims he was the voice behind those songs (!?)… the punk rock oldies circuit has been tired for nearly 20 (when I saw DOA, Joey Shithead seemed like he was 80 years old - and that was in the early nineties!)…I don’t give a shit about this guy, and he put in 16 years, simply to be thought of this way by me. A screenplay beckons, sure to be as popular as my treatment all about when the time Funk Punk hit the hardcore scene (yes i’m really writing one)

Subject: Former Stranglers front man returns to the US

Hello XX,
Paul Roberts, steely-voiced lead singer of The Stranglers (classics like “Golden Brown” and “Always the Sun”), is returning to the U.S. for a limited run with his new band, Soulsec. In his 16 years with The Stranglers, Roberts brought the band to a younger, larger audience with international shows, a performance at the Royal Albert Hall and the chart-topping 2004 release Norfolk Coast. Roberts’ great voice, good looks and dynamic stage presence continue to draw new fans as well as Stranglers devotees.
When Roberts and The Stranglers last toured the US, they sold out the now defunct Wetlands Preserve in New York, Slims in SF and all their southern California shows (Billboard Live, Coach House, etc). He is looking forward to reconnecting with his sizeable American fan base. Roberts is available as a headliner or opening act, either acoustic or with a full band and has already booked the west coast (The Knitting Factory, Room 5, Detroit Bar) and we are looking to reserve some New York shows—would love to play XXXXXXXXX.
I’ll be in contact soon, and can easily provide links to Paul’s Roberts most recent performances. I look forward to talking with you.
Sincerely,
X
